Market In Cedar City early Sunday morning when a safe in the store was blown open, apparently by an experienced exper-ienced Rang, according to Chief of Police Tony Lambert. They also took $'0 from two cash registers reg-isters In the store, making a total to-tal haul of $r29. The safe cracking was skillfully skill-fully done, according to the police, po-lice, since the door was blown oien without knocking It off Its hinges. The dial had been pounded oft and explosive charges were net In it and f round the door. An odd touch was given to the robbery when It was noted that on each cash register was a 25-rent 25-rent piece, heads up, with the face pointed toward the open till. handkerchief was also found rii the floor. However, after a thorough search, no fingerprints could be found. In gaining access to the store, a 1-ln. board door In the rear was kicked In. according to the police. They then pried open an inner door and took It off of Its hinges. The safe was then rolled from behind the meat counter out Into a hall In the rear of the store where It was blown open. The robbery was discovered about 8 a. m. Sunday morning when Clair Macfarlane, proprietor, proprie-tor, entered the store to cut some meat for a restaurant In town. It Is believed that the robbery took place aometlme between midnight and 6 a. m. Explosive charges used on the safe are now being checked. since It Is thought that this robbery rob-bery may tie In with some which have been pulled in the northern part of the atate. |
