Show Road Committee Recommends Main Street Site A recommendation that a by-! pass highway should not be considered con-sidered now, but rather, the improvement im-provement of Main street, was made to the City Council at its repular meeting last Thursday. The recommendation was made by the Road committee of the; OHar fltv Chamber of Com- I merce, which has been Investigating Investi-gating various possibilities of remedying the traffic situation on Miin street. The committee's recommendation recommenda-tion has also been sent to the State F.oad Commission, which had requested that the city designate des-ignate a definite by-pass route so that construction could be started next summer. Due to the water mains under Main street, some of which have kaks, the concrete Is continually continual-ly sinkng in spots. Sheridan Flack, Fl-ack, district mad engineer, told the council that the state cannot; maintain the highway on Main suiet if the water mains keep undermining the concrete Due to this condition, the Road committee of the Chamber of Commerce recommended to the council that the pipes be removed re-moved from Man street to eliminate elim-inate the sinking and that the street be widened at the same time. The matter was taken under advisement by the city, and the recommendations have been turned over to the Water Board, for that group's consideration at l's next meeting. |
