The opening of the new studio at All Hallows college Monday night was the occasion for one of the most delightful musical gatherings held in the city in many months. A programme of the choicest musical selections was rendered ren-dered in the studio, which has been fitted up ;is an ideal music room for the college, and in which the musical talent of All Hallow? is- to he fostered. Encore "Soldier's Farewell'' f The spiritual as well as the physical Fide of man was catered to Thanksgiving Thanksgiv-ing day at the Utah state penitentiary. The latter was looked after by a sumptuous sump-tuous turkey dinner, with all the side dishes that' the meal implies. There was a musical and literary programme. Including a negro minstrel show, which v. af given in the chapel shortly after 1 o'clock. The musical part was given, under the personal direction of Miss Nora Cleason, w ho was assisted by j Miss Tlieoilni-ia Harris. The feature of the programme was a piano solo by Misri Harris, who, at special request, played the "Flower Song." It was the first time in the history of the penitentiary peniten-tiary that a piano was ever played in that penal institution. It was taken out to the peniteiMiary especially for the programme. The West End minstrels min-strels gave the burnt cork portion of the programme. The members are John "V. liter, George Bishop, Willard By-water. By-water. Dock Evans, Bert Hammerton. Ern Langston. Frank Flashman and John Eva iv. They gave their performance perform-ance under the direction of George Pug."ley. They were further assisted hy Misses Harris, Gabbott, Harley, Fafek and Gleason. The piano was kindly loaned by the Daynes Music company. The Southern Pacific company is preparing pre-paring to spend $7ri.00U to get water to Luein to supply its locomotives and to use for other purpose?. Application has been made to the state engineer fot tne appropriation of the water of a Fpring nearly twelve miles from Lucin. This water is to be conveyed by gravity through a four-inch pipe to the station. f-- The committee appointed by the board of governors of the Commercial club to investigate the coal situation in this ttate held a meeting yesterday. It was decided to extend an invitation to the icoaj operators or their representatives to I'uxt with the committee at the club rooms Saturday at 4 p. m. to discuss the matter. v 4 Father "urran celebrated mass at Bingham Junction Thanksgiving day. The Odd Fellows' hall was secured for the occasion, and Aery prettily decorated dec-orated by the Catholic ladies of that place. |
