Show FLOODS IN RUSSIA. Considerable Damage Done by Kise in River Neva. St. Petersburg. Nov. . Considerable damage has been caused by a sudden rise of the waters of the Neva and canals following fol-lowing the recent bad weather. The Neva is nine feet above normal and the streets bordering the river are flooded. Wheeled I traffic is suspended in many thorough- J fares and tne inhabitants are using boats and rafts. Great damage has been done on the islands in the rivt-r and at the port of St. Petersburg. The inundation is spreading in the low-lying quarters of the city, where the water is knee deep and the ground floors of houses and shops are flooded. During the afternoon the waters commenced com-menced to subside. The river is full cf floating debris from wrecked boats, wood paving, etc. The low-lying land of the city is cut off and is practically in a state of siege. |
