Show NO CARS RUNNING. Company Was Not Notified That the Strike Had Ended. Chicago, Nov. 25. Although a basis of ! settlement of the strike of the employes of the Chicago City Railway company was decided upon at 1:30 o'clock this morning, and the agreement was ratified by the men a few hours later, not a single sin-gle car is in service on the entire system tonight. The only ears operated today were manned by non-union crews, and the same conditions that have prevailed since the inauguration of the strike a week ago last Thursday exist. For some unexplained reason the management man-agement of the Chicago city railway was not officially notified until" tonight that the strike had been declared offT While the men were ratifying the agreement decided upn early this morning, by which the men were to return to work, the company com-pany continued to operate its cars under police protection on the five branch lines that had been opened for traffic since the inauguration of the strike, and as no official of-ficial notice of the cessation of hostilities hostil-ities had been received by the officials of the road at 5 o'clock tonight, the usual time of abandoning the service since the trouble began, arrangements were made for the cars, to run tomorrow guarded by the police. Tonight, however. how-ever. Assistant Chief of Police Schuettler. who has had charge of the police who have been guarding the cars, was notified noti-fied that his services and that of his men would be required no longer, as word had been received by Manager Mc-Cullough Mc-Cullough from President Mahon of the strikers' union that the strike had been declared off. The trainmen have been ordered to return for duty at 4 o'clock tomorrow morning. The electric linemen, firemen and engineers, cable splicers and coal teamsters returned to work tonight, and tomorrow the road will be operated I under normal conditions. |
