Show LAND OFFICE RULING. Important Decision by Secretary Hitchcock. Washington, D. C. Nov. 24. Recently Representative Brooks of Colorado presented pre-sented to the secretary of the interior a protest against the ruling cf the general land office which excepted from mineral cntrv linds temporarily withdrawn trom settlement for proposed inclusion in forest for-est reserves. A report was called for by Secretary Hitchcock from Chief Forester Pirchot," who states that it is the intention inten-tion of the forestry burciu to restore to the publie domain all lands temporarily withdrawn from settlement when on examination ex-amination thev are not found t be valuable valu-able for timber or water protection purpose. pur-pose. Lands permanently included in lorest reserves are subject to mineral entry, en-try, and Mr. Piachot states that no good reason exists why land temporarily withdrawn with-drawn should be excepted from such entry. en-try. On this report the secretary today ruled that mineral entries should be received re-ceived on the iands in question. rhe decision de-cision relates to lands intended to be included in-cluded in the reserve near Salida.
