Show FLOODS IN COUNTY LIMERICK. Dismal accounts of the ruin wrought by recent rains are given by those who have passed through all parts of Couuty Limerick within the past few days. The wynds or field cocks of hay which could not be secured in haggards up to this are so many islands in the meadow lakes which dot the country. In some districts so persistent has been the downpour down-pour for four riionths that a good deal of hay is still actually in grass cocks. This, of course, will never be fit for anything except manure. Potatoes are in a parlous state. In all low-lying lands have rotted in the ground, and the loss from this cause must be very serious. The river Deel has burst its banks near Rathkeale, flooding potato pits and hay in various stages of beinb "saved." On the line between Limerick and Killaloe the flat stretches beside the Shannon are deeply under water, and in this case also large quantities of hay will suffer, as it has been impossible to remove it to places of safoty. |
