Show Coon is Named Sheriff Larry Coon, newly selected by the Garfield County Commission to fill the unexpired term of resigning Garfield County Sheriff Vic Mid-dleton, Mid-dleton, will take office, April 1. His term of office will run until the November elections at which time he must face county voters as a write-in candidate. Garfield County Republican Central Commitee Chairman Elaine Baldwin explained that since Sheriff Middleton is a registered Republican, Utah law says that county Republican party officials . must meet together in committee to select three names of potential replacements from among which the county commission selects the new sheriff. Baldwin placed an advertisement " in the Garfield County News inviting qualified interested individuals to submit applications. Jeff Stock, Can- nonville; Robert Judd, Ticaboo and j Tom Reynolds, Escalante. The 16 members of the committee were Baldwin; Jim Clarke, Can-nonville, Can-nonville, county vice chairman; . ...I : Larry Coon Brian Foy, county secretary-treasurer; secretary-treasurer; and local precinct officers of-ficers Judy Henrie, Diane Houston, Sarah Kay and Linda Allen, Panguitch; John Niemann and Carol Niemann Tropic; Bill Nelson, Cannonville; Calvin Wilson, Hatch; Marjorie Spencer, Ticaboo; Thurman Spencer and Marilyn Jackson, Escalante and Ivan Lyman and Gladys LeFevre, Boulder. The committee met March 4 to consider each application and resume and to conduct interviews with each candidate. Baldwin stated that committee members were pleased with the high caliber of applicants from whom they made a choice of three they felt to be best qualified for the position. Robert Judd, currently a Garfield County Sheriff's deputy, received 16 votes, with Coon' and Stock each receiving 12. Committee members were each required to vote for three different individuals or their ballot would be disqualified.
