Show Halley's Comet View Offered At Bryce Area BRYCE CANYON NATIONAL PARK A chance to view Halley's Comet, weather permitting, from a Bryce Canyon National Park scenic viewpoint uniquely noted for its super-clear air will be offered Saturday, March 15. Seth Jarvis, educational services specialist from Hansen Planetarium in Salt Lake City and Margaret r Littlejohn, park naturalist, have collaborated on providing the unusual opportunity with the cooperation of the famous comet and hopefully, the weather. Interested comet -watchers should meet at the park Visitors Center at 3:30 a.m. for the drive out to I Yovimpa Point where Jarvis will provide special information about the comet at the time when it will be most easily seen at its highest point off the horizon.- Should the weather be uncooperative, a second try will be made the following morning. Littlejohn urges anyone interested to dress warmly, with hats and gloves, and to bring their own hot beverages. She said that each person should bring binoculars, if possible, for the best viewing, with telescopes optional. Jarvis will have a telescope from the planetarium set up to commodate the early morning comet watchers. Elevation at Yovimpa Point is 9,100 feet and the viewpoint is noted for providing a view unparalled for its clarity and distance. |
