Show Escalante Events Marilyn Jackson The weather provided something for everyone: a little winter frost and snow, some summer sun, fall rains and spring winds. Mr. and Mrs. Jerold Judd removed tree stumps from their lot and replaced a fence. Reed Munson assisted the Blaine Lymans in removing the cement fence around the Padre Motel. Dan Cottam is building a new garage and storage shed. Mannley Johnson pruned trees for Lama Baker and Garkane crews helped with pruning at the Claron Griffin home and Euzell Cottam lot. A rate committee attended the Garkane meeting to assist in looking for alternative methods of raising monies. A new power project is proposed for the Fredonia area. LoRell Munson was chosen as a delegate from our area to attend region meetings with proposals. ' Taking advantage of the beautiful weather, Edson Alvey chaperoned and guided a group of eager hikers down Spooky Gulch. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Kuhns met i friends in Pahrump, Nev. and toured ghost towns there and took in the sights at Scotty's Castle and Death Valley in California. Shirley Marsh fell from a kitchen stool, severely spraining her ankle. Rae Masters has been suffering with i; back ailments. Clea Woolsey and mother, Elise Ott traveled north to De with Shirley Porter who was hospitalized with lung ailments. She has been released and hopes to come j here to convalesce for awhile. !; Mary Ellen Coleman underwent surgery for gall bladder. She is recuperating at the home of daughter Cleva Swindle in Goshen. I Debbie Jabalero has also been ill. Her husband Francisco Jabalero I works with Keith Carter. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Bee be recently helped her father, Carl Beebe celebrate his 87th birthday. They accompanied him to Provo where they stayed with Ron's sister and saw the Ramses II exhibit. Son, Wade Beebe, Gary Griffin, Mike I Griffin and Darren Gates are doing some carpentry work in St. George. Brothers Alvin and Newell Cowles came for the weekend to visit family and took the opportunity to go fishing on Boulder Mountain. Mr. and Mrs. Starns Mecham returned from Las Vegas where they visited son Ron and family. The Hank Boltons had medical appointments in St. George, after which they went to the temple. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jackson went to St. Geroge where Tom attended the hay symposium sponsored by Utah Farm Bureau. They met . former resident Gerald Griffin and had a good visit. Clorine Vidrine joined father, Wanlass Alvey at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Don Lee in St. George. Husband, Bill joined them on the weekend and brought Clorine home. Clarence Davis is staying at the home of his brother Del Roy Davis and is employed at the sawmill. They report son, Lee Davis is doing well and anticipated a transfer to Germany with the Armed Forces later this spring. Theron Mitchell recently completed com-pleted special schooling in Baker-sfield, Baker-sfield, Calif, in connection with his employment as Petroleum Engineer at the Bureau of Land Management. Dixie's sister, Janet and her husband Dan Flores came for the wedding of Larry and Tenisa Poteet and to assist Gloria Gracie who is moving from the doublewide into the home on the corner. Brent Spack-man Spack-man who is employed at the BLM will be renting the doublewide and anticipates moving his family here soon. The infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Danny Rollins was blessed and given a name in sacrament meeting. Tiny Tyson Daniel Rollins is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Don Coleman. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Caldwell have purchased the Circle D. Motel. They plan to continue the business while renovating and remodeling. Incidentally, there are 18 homes with the surname of Griffin, making it the most common or popular name in our valley, with Spencer running a close second, with 14. Ruth Alvey and grandson, Mike Alvey came from Kanab for the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Courtney Green have moved into the home commonly com-monly referred to as the Dicy Coomb home, with the anticipation of buying it. They have a young son. Betty Alvey returned from the north where she spent a week with daughter, Irene Tait and family. Brothers, Mark and Brent Griffin were at Brian Head and felt they were too close to home not to come over, so they came for an afternoon game of tennis with father, Gene and to cheer up mother, Thais who has suffered with a bad leg. Clorine Vidrine returned from St. George where she visited her father, Wanlass Alvey and sister Donnette Lee and family. Bill joined them on the weekend to bring her home. The annual Relief Society dinner will be held March 15. The ham dinner will begin at noon with a program immediately following. Please plan to attend. |
