Show Beef Referendum Is Success In County The May 10 beef referendum vote that will allow each producer to donate $1 to the Beef Promotion and Research Board, "was an overwhelming over-whelming success in Garfield County," said Utah State University Univer-sity Extension Agent Verl Matthews. "In fact," he said, "Garfield County beat the national average in yes votes cast." The $1 checkoff will be split approximately in half with one portion going to advertising promotion and the other half into research programs to help the beef industry regain ground lost because of dietary changes in the nation and because of inroads by less expensive expen-sive fowl. ' Beef producers nationwide voted 202,408 for the referendum and 54,097 against, for a 79 percent in favor. In Utah, 2,044 voted yes and 151 voted no for a 93 percent favorable vote. Garfield County with 74 voting produced 72 in favor and 2 opposed, for a favorable vote of 97 percent. |
