Show Cherry Harvest Readied At Capitol Reef ' CAPITOL REEF NATIONAL PARK The annual cherry harvest har-vest at Capitol Reef National Park will begin on Thursday, June 30 at 9 a.m., according to Park Superintendent Superin-tendent Martin C. Ott. Ott said that the crop will be unusually light this year, as much as 75 percent below average, and that the price per pound has been set at 500. Ott explained that the cherry trees in the historic Fruita area are not sprayed. The isolation of the old historic community usually limits the orchard pests typical of other areas. Ott reminded potential pickers that the park supplies a number of three-legged ladders, safer than the two-legged type, but advised caution cau-tion with all ladder use. Persons desiring further information about the cherry harvest may call (801) 425-3791 or inquire at the park visitor center on Highway 24. |
