Show Commissioners Meet With BLM 1 1 Garfield County commissioners (turned from a June 23 meeting in alt Lake City at the Bureau of Land Management state office (lailding confident that the way ihead for work to start on improving improv-ing the Burr Trail Road should be asier. They met with Kemp Conn, acting state director of BLM and other BLM officials. Accompanying t h e commissioners to the Salt Lake City meeting were County Attorney Attor-ney Pat Nolan and Attorneys Ron Thompson and Barbara Hjelle. The BLM decision not to appeal the June 6 opinion of the federal appeals court in Denver placed the ball firmly in the county's court. "We're in no hurry to approach Judge Aldon Anderson about lifting the injunction," said Commissioner Louise Liston upon her return. "We won't be starting work on the road until at least fall," she said, "since there's too little moisture and hauling haul-ing water to the construction site would be too costly. "We've decided to take our time, proceed cautiously and carefully with the asked-for Environmental Assessment to assure that everything every-thing will be in order." A scoping meeting is planned to take place between the environmentalist groups objecting to improving the road and BLM and county people before the preliminary prelimi-nary environmental assessment so that complaints can be aired and addressed. |
