Show Texas Firm To Develop Carbon Wells Two Dallas, Texas firms have announced a joint venture agreement to develop what is believed to be the largest carbon dioxide deposit in the United States, located In Garfield County. John D. Slawter, president of Mid-Continent Oil Company, announced the agreement with II. B. Brown Oil Company, saying the two companies will operate on a well-by-well basis until the entire field is completed. Known as the Slawter-Brown Sunrise Field, the deposit was discovered in September, 1983, by Mid-Continent, a subsidiary of Pacific International Production Co. of Dallas. The deposit lies beneath an estimated 40,000 acres of land about 32 miles northwest of Escalante, in thr Escalante Anticline, Kaiparowitz Basin, and contains Dossibly four trillion cubic feet of 'carbon dioxide gas valued at $8 billion, based on current prices. The initial wildcat well was drilled through a farmont agreement with Atlantic Richfield Company, which will continue to participate in the project. Verification wells are expected to be drilled to prove the reserves within the next few weeks, said Slawter. |
