And every year at this time, Lady Ute Coach Greg Marsden and his squad have had a familiar reply: Hey, well win it all again. Well, this has been going on for five years now, because Utah has made good every time out in its quest for a national championship. So when the Lady Utes take the floor F riday at 7:30 p.m. in the Special Events Center for their meet against Washington and California, dont even ask. You already know the answer. I was so mad. I cried for two days after that, Bucher said. "I had been training at 9,000 feet elevation in Tignes France, but Zermatt Switzerland, the contest site was at 12,000 feet. People were spitting up blood after their runs because of the altitude." Bucher and Olstedt altered a couple of dance steps and added some new flips and tricks to make her routine more showy. Her ballet run is choreographed to the sounds of Rick Springfield, Donna Sommer, Power Station and Powerbird. Trying to describe what she does on snow with those sounds is like attempting to copy the Mona Lisa using crayons. During the summer she and Judge teach a freestyle camp at Mt. Hood, Ore. Last year, there were 160 aspiring skiers who came to Oregon to polish their skills. At Snowbird, Jan took time from her training to work with one of her students New Yorker Andrea Freeman. Weight lifting has become a major part of Jans training. Body building is just another big hobby for me, Jan said. If I dont go in and try to lift a couple of times a week, I go nuts. Peter has the whole Canadian team into weight training. All they do is ski and pump iron. In a sport where dressing well is an advantage, Bucher relies on a former Highland High School classmate for assistance. Vicki Julian, owner of Thinair, a custom ski suit company, has created about five suits for Bucher. When asked about the 1988 Olympics, which will be staged at Judges hometown of Calgary, Bucher said she is more concerned with becoming a World Champion this year. She doesnt, however, rule out competing in the 88 Games and it is a safe bet that, if she isnt competing, she will be there coaching.
