Combine the speed and attitude of these three players along with the other members of the football team and the Cougars would have another exciting year. on DUO -- a defensive back. ... Adam Haysbert celebrates in the Utah State endzone last year. leet Feet Bless YU Receivers By PAT EDWARDS Herald Correspondent Great speed is something that can't be coached, but it's a trait that makes coaches drool. And it is a talent that is looked for in the recruiting of athletes. The measurement of speed is relative to the type of sport. In the Olympics, Carl Lewis won four gold metals with his great speed (and some jumping ability, too). In football speed is measured by how fast a player can run 40 yards. A football player doesn't have to run the distance that a sprinter does, so he doesn't need the acceleration that Carl Lewis has. If a football player can run the 40 in 4.5 he is considered to have excellent speed. However, speed doesn't necessarily make an athlete a good football player. There are other factors involved. This year the Cougars have more speed than they have had in the past. Several players on the squad have 4.5 or better in the 40. The receivers are a talented crew. And considered by some to be the best that the Cougars have had. Two players who run the 40 in 4.5 are members of this exclusive unit. Adam Haysbert runs the 40 in 4.45, and Richard Orr runs the 40 in 4.4. Both are excellent receivers. Adam Haysbert comes from San Mateo, California. He was recruited cut of high school and has been with the Cougars for five years. This year Haysbert has earned a starting position. He's excited about starting his first game, his senior year, against Pittsburg. Like he said, the timing couldn't be better. Earning that starting position hasn't been easy. And someone with less courage anl character than Adam probably would have quit and gone home, but In 1982, Haysbert's redshirt year, he was plagued with injuries, illness, and discouragement. with those challenges he had to learn the offense and how to catch the football. It was a hard year, but Adam has the patience and has made himself into an outstanding receiver. Last year Haysbert rotated with Mike Eddo as the third receiver. He caught TD passes against Bowling Green, New Mexico, and Utah State. His TD catch against Utah State helped win the game. Haysbert has complete confidence in this years football team, and rates Robbie1 Bosco as an quarterback When asked about Bosco's del. very Adam gesture and gave the thumbs-u- p said, "He's a winner!'' Haysbert, like many others, compare Bosco with Marc Wilson. Richard Orr was scheduled to step into the Cougar line-u- p this fall. However, in the first week of practice, Orr was injured and is "out indefinitely."
