Everyone is back on offense to give the Vikings one of the best attacks around. Eric Thomas returns at quarterback and will hand off and throw to veterans. Brad Kitchen, all state lineman, will anchor both offensive and defensive lines. WEAKNESSES: Linebackers are untested. PREDICTED FINISH: First. PLEASANT GROVE-Optimis- Pleasant Grove as coach Doug Bluth returns a is running high in very experienced football team that made it all the way to the final four at Rice Stadium during last year's state tournament. "We have a good senior nucleus for our team," said Bluth. "Our line-u- p will definitely be senior' dominated. It's my opinion that experience will never hurt you." The leading returnee for the Vikings is first-tea- from high schtiot sports throughout Central I lah all-stat- e of- fensive lineman Brad Kitchen 195i. Kitchen has been starting on both sides of the line since he was a sophomore. "Kitchen is one of the bigger linemen that we've ever had here at Pleasant Grove. He's a great leader and has earned the respect of his teammates for his accomplishments. He's very competitve and is extremely coachable as well," Bluth noted. (6-- 5 QB Eric Thomas, who split time in the backfield with Neil Peterson in Bluth s revolving door quarterback policy. Thomas will be designated as the Viking's starting quarterback, but he may be sharing the duties with junior Shawn Jacobsen. "Quarterback experience is paramount." said Bluth. "Thomas is very tamiliar with the oflense. We do hope to give Jacobsen some playing time though. We like to keep the QB's rotating so we can keep them fresh." The Vikings return seasoned players at the skill positions en masse. Fullback Heath Johnson and tailback Mark Clements will likely be starting alongside Thomas in the backfield. Scott Moser and Tracey Flinders should man the wide receiver positions. Even without Kitchen, the offensive line would be good. Don Parker returns at the center slot, and guards Mike Sumner and Don Parker are back as well. With Kitchen, they should be the an immoveable force. Defensively, the line is anchored by (who else?) Kitchen. The Vikings, though, need to replace all four of last year's starting linebackers. Look for Jerry Wood to be a key at the linebacker position. Junior Brent Lar-se- n could crack into an almost there as exclusive senior line-u- p well. "We run a finesse-typ- e offense and a reaction defense, so it is necessary that we overcome our mistakes in a hurry," said Bluth. Adjustable Hitch Receivers Champs This should be no problem for the Vikings, who are incredibly, academically sound. Bluth estimates the cumulative grade point average of his senior starters to be around a 3 6 or A- - average. Who says jocks have to be dumb? "This shows that their priorities are in the right place," said Bluth. "It's a tough schedule and it will be important to maintain peak physical condition during the preseason. After we play West we should have a good idea of what kind of football team we'll be," hip said Bluth. With the talent and good player attitude in Pleasant Grove, the Vikings could be on their way to a third straight trip to Rice Stadium. Aug. Jl Srpt. Sepl. Sept. 7 Sepl (. 14 Zl J S Ort.
