He will be joined by Wade Johnson (6--3 , 250 pounds) and two s with experience in Don Casey (6-- , 250) and Rick Hilder (6-- 240). 6-- Ricks Idaho When REXBURG, Coach Ron Haun of College talks about his 4984 team, he speaks most glowingly about his defensive unit. "We've got better athletes than weve ever had before," Haun said of players who will report for opening drills on Aug. 20. Among the 127 athletes who will report for the first workouts will be 34 returning lettermen, just about evenly divided between offense and defense. "The defense will have to carry us early in the season,"' the Viking mentor emphasized. "The offense will take a while to jell. "We look very strong defensively with tremendous size and speed." Because their offense may take time to develop into a cohesive unit, the Vikings will get a great break in the schedule with three games leading off the slate. Ricks' first Intermoun-tai- n College Athletic Conference game isn't until Sept. 29 against Snow College in Ephraim. "I'm happy with the schedule (10 games)," Coach Haun said. "We dropped one game (a home contest against Montana Tech Sept. 1 ) to save ourselves for the latter part of the season when it counts." What "counts" is winning the ICAC crown and an invitation to the Valley of the Sun Bowl Thanksgiving Day. On the defensive line, Haun will men inhave four second-yea- r cluding jaycee Hororable Mention nose-guard- 3 Other returning linemen are Robert Roberts 240), Jeff (5-1- 1, McMillian (6-- 3 , 278), and Paul Kruger (6--4 , 250). Other linebackers include Mike Jarvis (6-- , 205), Shawn Lecking-to- n (6-210) and Tika Manu (6-(5-1- 1, 2 225). The defensive secondary looks really tough, too, with Todd Bradford (6-170), Brian Halloway (6-180), and Stefan Miller (5-170), all returning for a second 0, year.
