Show Region softball begins Wildcats log win over Braves By ALAN HAACKE Clipper Correspondent BOUNTIFUL High school girls' softball continued into the third week of the season. Local teams battling on the diamond found Woods Cross taking its third straight on Tuesday but losing on Thursday. Meanwhile, Davis, Bountiful and Viewmont all succumbed suc-cumbed to rival teams in league duels. WX 9, BOUNTIFUL 6 Called after four innings of play for time limitations, the Woods Cross Wildcats came from behind to drop cross town rival Bountiful, 9-6. The 'Cats were down by three runs at the top of the fourth inning when 'Cat Coach Kevin Wilson gave his girls a 'talking to. "We were making a lot of mistakes. I told 'em I expected more out of them, and they went out and did their job, said Wilson. Power hitter Charity Richards, a consistent force for the Wildcats, pounded in three RBI's. Teammate Lori Kirk wood nailed the ball for an additional two runs, as the 'Cats ended the game with the three point lead. Camille DuPaix and Rachelle Fillmore served as the Braves big guns driving in runs for Bountiful. WF.ST 4, BOUNTIFUL 3 RorhHle Fillmore continued to establish herself as the Braves' offensive force, but Bountiful still couldn't muster enough runs to overcome region rival West in both teams' second region matchup. A disappointed coach Brad Christensen said, "The girls continue con-tinue to work very hard. With time, I think they'll do real well." The Lady Braves return to action Wednesday hosting the Murray Spartans. ROY 15, DAVIS 4 Davis fell to Roy at home Wednesday night, 15-4. "We did some real good things during the first few innings of play," said Coach Chamane Creer. "We just made some errors late in the game that we couldn't recover from." Plagued by illness and injuries, Lady Dart Angela Orme played as the team's solitary pitcher. "She had a lot of responsibility resting on her, and she did a good job," said Creer, noting that one of her pitchers pit-chers should be back in uniform by next week. Sophomores Anne Casdorph and Amy Brunnette were the gunners that brought in Davis' four runs. LAYTON 22, VIEWMONT 2 The Lady Vikes took two tough losses this week, falling to Weber Tuesday, 17-7, and to Layton on Wednesday, 22-2. "That first inning against Weber really brought us down," said Viking Vik-ing Coach Paige Adams. "Except for that inning, we actually did very well" Char Holmes pounded a home run, while Stacie Henderson, Wendy Wen-dy Merrill and Honi Sessions all placed hits in the Viking stat book. Pitcher Ame Lawlor played the entire en-tire game against the Weber team. Wednesday's match-up against the Layton Lancers saw Vikings Honi Sessions and Stacie Henderson Hender-son score after Henderson's hit. "We don't have quite the strong, fast pitchers that Layton has, but ours are learning.. .they'll do better with time," said Adams. |
