Show BHS stud en ts win big I - , - r I ,1 i Bountiful High School speech students Kasey Rasmussen, Sean Thompson, Tom Bullock and Jennifer Kunz placed high at various speech and debate tournaments around the state. Bountiful High School students have experienced success in recent forensic competitions that mark the end of the speech and debate season. At the State 3A Debate meet held at Weber State University on March 16, Sean Thompson placed plac-ed second in legislature forum and Tom Bullock placed second in impromptu. im-promptu. At the National Forensic League's Wasatch District national qualifying tournament, Sean Thompson placed third in extemporaneous extem-poraneous speaking and is an alternate alter-nate for the national tourney to be held in June. Stephen Kelson was voted the alternate congress person for the national tourney and took third place in the national house. Tom Bullock placed second in the non-qualifying federal house. At the Abe Lincoln classic held at Southern Utah University, Chris Thomell placed fourth in congress, and Mindy Allen placed fourth in oral interpretation and sixth in dramatic dra-matic interpretation. Jennifer Kunz took sixth in dramatic interpretation, interpreta-tion, while Kasey Rasmussen was a quarterfinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate. At the Region 6 debate tournament tourna-ment held at Granite High School on March 8, Bountiful High School speech students placed second and qualified a full slate of speech students for the State 3A debate meet. State 3A champion Murray High pulled ahead on superior policy debate results, leaving Bountiful Boun-tiful in second place, well ahead of a strong Granite High School squad. Earning honors and qualifying for state are: Sean Thompson, first place, congress; Bryce Brown, first place, Lincoln-Douglas debate; Grant Lowe, second place, national extemporaneous speaking; Stephen Kelson, second place, congress; Tom Bullock, second place, impromptu im-promptu speaking; Alicia Isom, third place, oratory; Christine Larson, Lar-son, fourth place, oratory; Cathi Low, fourth place, impromptu speaking; and Peter Ward, fifth place, congress. Also qualifying for state were the following: Aaron Anderson, fifth fif-th place, international extemporaneous extem-poraneous speaking; Mindy Webb, sixth place, international extemporaneous extem-poraneous speaking; Angie Russell, seventh place, national extemporaneous extem-poraneous speaking; Steven Nielsen, eighth place, national extemporaneous ex-temporaneous speaking; Robyn Oborn, eighth place, Lincoln-Douglas Lincoln-Douglas debate; Joseph Moore, ninth place, international extemporaneous extem-poraneous speaking; Brian Arbanas and Carl Wadsworth, state qualifiers in policy debate; Mike Simmons and Curt Cottrell, state qualifiers in policy debate; Kasey Rusmussen, state qualifier in Lincoln-Douglas debate. |
