VIEWMONT 6, LAYTON 0 Viewmont boosted its record to an impressive 5-0 Wednesday, pounding the Layton Lancers 6-0. "We did not play as a team at all against Weber," Viking coach Will Veal said. "After a harsh scolding, the team played with a lot of cohesiveness Wednesday. We finally played soccer as a team." Viewmont's six goals were scored by five different Vikings including in-cluding two goals by Aaron Jones and goals by Jesse Simmons, Brian Smith, Nick Berry and Kevin Campbell. The Vikes will gear up to meet region rival Davis on Wednesday at Bountiful Junior High School. Game time is set for 4 p.m. Viewmont View-mont draws a bye on Friday. DAVIS 2, ROY1 The Darts opened Region 1 action ac-tion Wednesday night with a 2-1 come-ftom -behind win over the Roy High Royals. Roy fullback Dustin Mathews put the Royals on the board first, but Davis quickly retaliated as left fullback Mark Alles evened the score at 1-1. Sophomore Jeff Terry beat the Roy goalie for the go-ahead goal, boosting the Darts to a 1-0 region record. Davis is 3-0 on the season. WX 2 JORDAN 0 After cancelling a scheduled bout with the Granite Farmers Tuesday, the Woods Cross Wildcats enjoyed both their first home game and their first win of the season downing Jordan Jor-dan 2-0 Thursday. Twenty minutes into Thursday's bout, Corby Egan came the length of the field from his fullback position posi-tion to beat the Beetdigger goalie and put the 'Cats up 1-0. Twenty minutes into the second half, Bryant Eggett took a free kick to the line and passed it to Danny Morris who put the Wildcats up 2-0 with the header. "We played very well for only our third game of the season," Woods Cross coach Kevin Rigby said. "We made no mistakes offensively. They had their chances, but we didn't make any mistakes. 'Offensively, we rotated Egan and Justin Kirkham on right halfback and wing to keep them fresh. Both of them have good speed and can play either position. This generated a lot of offense, probably the most offense I've seen here for a few years. Woods Cross' offensive game plan earned the 'Cats 20 shots on goal. Jordan managed four. |
