Show Linguists home from Saudi SALT LAKE CITY Members of a Bountiful based National Guard linguists unit returned from Saudi Arabia Friday after spending the last three months interrogating Iraqi prisoners of war. The 75 returning members of the Utah National Guard's Company A, 142nd Military Intelligence Battalion arrived at the Salt Lake International Airport where they were greeted by their families, Lt. Governor Val Oveson and Maj. Gen. John L. Matthews. The unit was activated in two groups. The first reported for duty Aug. 3, 1990, with the second following Jan. 3. The highly specialized group is made up of men and women who are bilingual and who possess interrogation skills. Army Lt. Col. Bob Nelson said the group will be given a formal welcome home ceremony at guard headquarters head-quarters in Draper, "after they have had two or three weeks to readjust to their families and their jobs. ' Some members of the unit are still serving in the Gulf and no word has been received as to their return date. |
