Show BYU to dismantle Ironton plant; new complex set Brigham Young University has set out a communication inviting in-viting bids for the proposed dismantling dis-mantling of the Ironton Steel Plant where the university plans long-range development of an industrial park complex. The plant and site were donated don-ated to BYU last September by the U.S. Steel Corporation. The worth of the gift is in the 386 acres of industrial site land. The plant itself hasn't produced any steel products since 1962 and no future production is anticipated. an-ticipated. Specifications available Prospective bidders for razing raz-ing the plant buildings have been informed that plans and specifications may be obtained from the construction section of the Physical Plant Department. Depart-ment. The scheduled bid opening date is June 24 at 2 p.m. in the Cannon Center, Brigham Young University, and the planned completion date of the dismantling disman-tling project is May 1, 1971. The industrial complex would be developed as a service to Utah Valley, bringing jobs and payrolls that would erilTance the economy and as a financial finan-cial investment for BYU to bring in added revenues to aid the university in meeting the problem of increasing costs of providing education for over 20,000 people annually. |
