Doug and Barbara Jensen returned re-turned from a trip to Las Vegas Ve-gas by way of Navajo Lake. Their daughter Kerrie Lin is staying for her summer vacation vaca-tion with an aunt and uncle in Las Vegas and will return home next week. At home in Las Vegas are the new George Deither's (the former Phyllis Jackson.) Ore-gon. The young couple plan to return to BYU in the fall. Bryan Tew was honored on his 72nd birthday last Friday by his three daughters who invited in-vited him to a surprise party at the home of Sharon Johns in Spanish Fork. Helping Sharon Shar-on with arrangements were Wilma Barker and Sharon Bills. A delicious turkey dinner was served and a delightful evening was spent visiting with Sharon and Mark Bills, Wilma and Wayne Barker, Colleen and Roy Johns the Tew's and their grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Wendell B. Mendenhall visited on Memorial Day at the home of his sister, Mrs. Hugh Hjorth. Another sister, sis-ter, Mrs. Catherine Clement and husband Lee of Ogden were here as were Eugene Man-waring, Man-waring, a cousin from Pocatel-lo, Pocatel-lo, Idaho, and another cousin, Mrs. May Thompson of Salt Lake City. The Mendenhall's will be returning to New Zealand Zeal-and in a few weeks where they will bid farewell to brother Earl Mendenhall and family who will be returning to the States to make their home in California after spending six years in New Zealand. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Wm. : Whiting the past week have . been Mrs. Whiting's son Milo Johnson and family. The Johnson's John-son's also visited Mrs. Johnson's John-son's relatives in the Vernal area before returning to their home in Needles, California. Mrs. Mabel Hopla was pleasantly plea-santly surprised by a visit from ! Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Jones of Las Vegas and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hopla of Vernal. Jess Bird, a former resident of Mapleton and his wife Bessie Bes-sie of Salt Lake City spent Memorial Day visiting with relatives re-latives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Marsh of : Lander, Wyo., have been in i Mapleton for a few days. Dean , is recuperating from injuries suffered in an automobile accident acci-dent earlier this month. The family of Mr .and Mrs. Lee Diamond met on Sunday at the home of a son Jim Diamond. Dia-mond. The occasion was to celebrate cele-brate the wedding anniversary of their parents and the birthday birth-day of Mr. Diamond. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Dia- mond, Payson; Mr. and Mrs. Loris Diamond, Mapleton. Their daughter Mrs. Ferrus Hales telephoned congratulations from Las Vegas. A sister, Mrs. Hel- en Beck, Leland, was also a guest. Mrs. Lucille Nielson has returned re-turned from Tacoma, Washington Washing-ton where she attended funeral funer-al services for her brother. She was accompanied by several relatives re-latives from Payson. Mr. and Mrs. Verl Behrman, former residents, and their daughter Ann came from Vernal Ver-nal to attend the high school graduation exercises. Ann was a new graduate from Vernal High School and came especially especial-ly to see her former classmates from Mapleton graduate. College friends of John Crandall, Cran-dall, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Widd-ner Widd-ner of Logan were luncheon guests Thursday at the home of John's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Condie Crandall. Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Broadhead of Duchesne also visited the Crandall's on that day. Mrs. Velma Williams joined with her brothers and sisters to participate in ceremonies honoring hon-oring her mother Christina Nuttal Madsen of Provo who was chosen this year to receive the Annual Joseph P. Smith Family Living Award. This award is given in recognition for life service and love of family, fam-ily, church and community. Mrs. Madsen was guest of honor hon-or at the Presidents luncheon and delivered an address during the commencement exercises at BYTJ. |
