Show Annua celebration Art City Days opens with queen pageant, I three-act play, "Artists of Life7 Banquet I Second feature of Art City Days opening at mid-week will be the enteraining three-act comedy, "All Because of Agatha," Aga-tha," annually produced as part of the celebration by the Springville Spr-ingville Playhouse. Staged in the Civic Center Arena theatre, the play win open Wo lnesday evening, June 11 at 8 p.m. and continue on through Saturday. A cast of talented actors in the city ? preparing th-j pi xlufition. The play is directed by Wcodrow Weight and he is being assisted by Kathy Papst. Also a number of the Playhouse Play-house board members are assisting as-sisting in the production. Cast in the fun-filled comedy are Mary Ann Lawrence, Michael Mi-chael Bartholomew, Barbara Bartholomew, Merle Schreiner, Cynthia Lovell, Byron Lovell, Kathy Pabst, Dawna Pratt, Don Pratt, and Morgan Thomas:. Thom-as:. Tickets for the play are on sale at the Civic Center under the direction of Verl Dallin, board member. Cast members also have tickets for sale or they mav be purchased at the Bob Welti, well-known TV and radio man, who will be the Emcee at the Miss Springville pageant next Tuesday evening at the high school. His professional experience ex-perience as an emcee will provide sparkle along with the beauty to be seen at the contest. Song, dance and instrumental instru-mental dexterity will delight de-light the audience Tuesday June 10 at the Miss Springville Spring-ville pageant in the Springville Spring-ville High School auditorium. auditor-ium. The program will begin at 8 p.m. and will be a prelude pre-lude to the climax of the evening when judges reach their final decision and name the delightful young lady who will be crowned the new Miss Springville for Art City Days. There are 18 talented contestants con-testants from throught Springville and Mapleton participating in the event. Their talents range from outstanding vocal ability to skill in designing clothes. Bob Welti, well known TV personality will emcee the production which is being be-ing sponsored by the Springville Spring-ville Jaycees. He will be assisted as-sisted by Mrs. Judy Robertson, Rob-ertson, Mrs. Alice Jacobsen, and Mrs. Sheila McDaniel, who are in charge of production. pro-duction. The girls will present their talent in a preliminay talent runoff on the afternoon after-noon of Tuesday, June 10th at the high school. At that time the judges will pick the talent contest finalists who will present their talent at the evening pageant. Five judges have been selected se-lected for the event. They include, Dr. and Mrs. Gay-den Gay-den Winger of Provo; Mrs. Lola E. Childs of Salt Lake; Gerald Elison of Pleasaai Grove; and Phil Odle of Provo. The former Miss Pauline Whiting (Todd), 1968 Miss Springville, will present the crown to the 1969 queen. The new queen will have an opportunity to compete in the Miss Utah pageant and if successful there, to go on to the Miss America pageant. pa-geant. Many honors, awards, and services have been offered those participating in and winners of the contest. These include following: each contestant will receive an engraved charm bracelet brace-let in memory of the event and an 8 by 10 colored picture pic-ture of herself. The new queen will receive a $100 cash prize, a $150 diamond dinner ring given by Duke Jewelry, and a $475 scholarship schol-arship from Classique Modeling Mod-eling School in Salt Lake. The first runner-up will receive re-ceive a $50 cash prize, and a $200 scholarship from Mary's Beauty College. The second runner-up will receive re-ceive a $25 cash prize and a $200 scholarship from Mary's Beauty College. Other prizes include hair styles and products donated by Artistic Beauty Salon, Beth's Beauty Salon, Judy's Beauty Salon, and Van's Beauty Bar. Penney's and Christensen's are giving clothes and shoes, and Kolob Lumber donated a hair dryer. dry-er. Finalists were selected by a committee of judges headed by winners of last year: Ron Thorpe, community service; Bud Schardine, youth leadership; leader-ship; Mary Bird, cultural arts; Wilford Clyde community service ser-vice by an organized group (representing the Art Assoc.) An outstanding program is being planned for the banquet June 12 at 7 p.m. in the Kolob Stake House. Dean Loren Wheelwright of the college of fine arts at BYU will be the guest speaker. Mr. Gledhill is in charge of awards presentation at the banquet with Mrs. Martindale over the banquet arrangements. Civic clubs have also been contacted and have tickets for the banquet. Five prominent judges from varied fields of interest will serve on a panel to select the new Miss Springville for Art City Days next Tuesday at the high school auditorium. They will score points which will determine the winner as the lovely young ladies compete in evening gown, swim suit and talent division. Serving on the r'ivo member panel of judges will be Mrs. Lola E. Childs, Salt Lake City. She has studied in finishing and modeling schools through the Classique program and has taken many classes ill thr-se fields at the universities. She has four children. Mrs. Childs is the director of the Classique Finishing and Modeling School in Salt Lake City and is the training director direc-tor for Cottillion in the Salt Lake area. She has judged numerous throughout the st.ite. Mrs. Childs will serve with four other judges, Gerald Eli-son,, Eli-son,, Phil Odle and Dr. and Mrs. Gayden Winger. |
