Show Local students receive degrees, honors from Utah universities ter have moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where he will be employed em-ployed by General Electric. Michael L. Huff Michael L. Huff, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn S. Huff graduated gradua-ted from BYU majoring in Sociology So-ciology with a 3.7 grade point for honors. Thomas H. Kohler. a son-in-law of the Huffs received re-ceived his degree majoring in Physical Education. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Otto C. Kohler of Minneapolis, Minn., and with his wife, Kathleen, and baby are now living here. Michael J. Mason Michael J. Mason, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Mason, received receiv-ed his B.S. degree Saturday at Utah State University in Wildlife Management. He is a graduate of Springville Spring-ville High School. He will be employed at Bryce Canyon this summer and will enter the armed arm-ed forces this fall when he joins the Navy. Paul Thorpe Paul Thorpe, 475 East 4th South, will be among 600 U of U students who will be candidates candi-dates for advanced degrees at the annual commencement, June 6, 1969. Hales Merrill M. Hales, son of Mi', and Mrs. Reid M. Hales of Mapleton, was valedictory speaker spea-ker at the Commencement Convocation Con-vocation of Brigham Young University College of Biological Biologi-cal and Agricultural Sciences May 29. Degrees were conferred on 2965 graduates at the general commencement exercises in the forenoon in George Alber1, Smith Fieldhouse and the diplomas di-plomas were presented to the graduates in 13 separate college col-lege meetings in the afternoon. Mr. Hales completed requirements require-ments for a major in agricultural agricul-tural economics and a minor in business management and will attend graduate school at Stan ford University in the fall of 1969. He transferred to BYU from Utah State University where he was a member of Phi Eta Sigma fraternity. At BYU he was elected to Phi Kappa Phi, national honorary honor-ary scholastic society. He has filled a mission for the LDS Church to Australia and is active ac-tive in the returned missionary fraternity, Delta Phi Kappa. Grant L. Nelson The University of Utah is pleased to announce that Grant L. Nelson 283 4th Ave., Salt Lake City, Utah is one of more than 600 students who will be candidates for advanced degrees at the annual commencement, commen-cement, June 6, 1969. David L. Pall rey man James Robertson L. Russell McKenzie Michael L. Huff Hi Mr. Nelson, son of Mrs. Lela Nelson, 466 So. 1st East, is a candidate for a masters degree in social work. Advanced work towards the 'degree included a thesis entitled, entit-led, "A Comparison of Characteristics Charac-teristics of Persons 65 Years of Age and Older Residing in Salt Lake County, Utah, June 1968." Mr. Nelson, a graduate of Springville High School, received receiv-ed his bachelor of science degree de-gree from Brigham Young University Uni-versity in 1955. He is married to the former Dorothy Caroleen Willardsen, Salt Lake City. While in school Mr. Nelson was a member of group work curriculum committee, and coauthor co-author of "Interviewing, Some Innovative Implications and Methodological Considerations," also serving as a part-time clinical instructor. After graduation grad-uation he plans to work in California at a community mental men-tal health center. David L. Palfreyman David L. Palfreyman, University Uni-versity Village, Salt Lake City, Utah, is receiving his advanced degree at the U of U annual Commencement, June 6. Mr. Palfreyman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lorus Palfreyman, 339 East 100 South, Springville, is a candidate for a masters degree de-gree in business administration. Mr. Palfreyman, a graduate of Springville High School, received his bachelor of science degree in 1968 from Brigham Young University. He is mar ried to the former Kathleen Stokes, Springville. Mr. Palfreyman is a teaching assistant in finance and is graduating magna cum laude. James Robertson James M. Robertson, son of Mi. and Mrs. LeMont Robertson, Robert-son, graduated from Officers Training School May 15 at Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. He graduated as a distinguished distinguish-ed graduate (top 15 of the class.) He was given leave to return to receive his B.A. degree de-gree at BYU last week with a major in Spanish and a minor in political science. Mr. Robertson, who is to be stationed at Laredo Air Force Base, Texas, will continue as an undergraduate pilot training student. He hopes to go into special operational forces of the Air Force where he will be working with the latin American Amer-ican people. James has been in the Air Force since January of this year and had been in the Navy Reserve since 1966. He is in the 5 year program but may continue as a career man. He will return to his duties today. L. Kussell McKenzie L. Russell McKenzie, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leland McKenzie graduated manga cum laude from BYU Thursday with a B. A. degree in social science. After graduation he plans to work with rehabilitation or psychiatric social work. All University graduates and members of the faculty and administration ad-ministration will participate in the June 6 ceremony |
