Flaming Gorge Dam tour opens Saturday Flaming Gorge Dam and powerplant will be opened for the first time to public tours on Memorial Day weekend, Frank Lord, Chief of the Bureau Bur-eau of Reclamation's Flaming Gorge Field Division, said today to-day at Dutch John, Utah. Vis itors may proceed at whatever speeds they like along the well-marked well-marked tour route. Information displays, charts, and recorded tapes at appropriate locations will help tourists to understand the operation of the dam and powerplant. Tour hours will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. dally. The tour will begin at the elevator lobby on the crest of the dam. Parking is available at the Flaming Gorge Visitor Center, on the canyon rim. A descent by elevator of about 400 feet will take visitors ..jto the level of the generators. A short gallery leads to the generator gen-erator room, where some of the major equipment of the power-plant power-plant may be viewed. The tour will also take visitors outside the powerplant where they may look up at the face of the dam and down at the water surging out of the draft tubes, while a tape message tells the story of the building of the dam.
