Show 1Jew5 Flote4 . . . Many beneficial insects are found in home gardens, orchards orch-ards and farm fields. Most of these are predators which help control damaging insects, points out Dr. George Knowl-ton, Knowl-ton, Utah State University Extension Ex-tension entomologist. He says we would do well to recognize our beneficial insects as well as the injurious ones. Several species of ladybird beetles (ladybugs) and their larvae, which resemble tiny gila monsters, are among the highly high-ly prized assistants that aid us greatly in aphid and mite control. These include nabid bugs, minute pirate bugs, big eyed bugs, aphid lions and as-sasin as-sasin bugs, to mention a few. "These useful insect predators preda-tors and a host of insect parasites para-sites aid us in insect control. Also, many birds live largely on insects. Nature has indeed been kind in providing many beneficial insects to aid us in holding down rapid increases of the numerous injurious insect in-sect species," Dr. Knowlton stated.
