Show Total deer take listed for '64 A total of 115,600 deer were taken by hunters during the 1964 seasons, the Department of Fish and Game announced today. This is an increase of 6,201 deer compared to the 1963 harvest of 109,399 animals. ani-mals. The figures show 169,178 hunters afield took 98,549 deer on the regular license for a hunter success ratio of 58.2 per cent. Of the animals taken on the regular license, 68,612 were bucks, 29,937 were does. There were 17,051 deer taken ta-ken by special permit holders at a hunter success ratio of 80.6. This was 2,294 fewer deer than were taken on special spe-cial permits during 1963 when the Utah Board of Big Game Control set 3,810 more such permits than for the 1964 hunts. Department spokesmen noted that for many years the board had programmed the hunts, both regular and special, to bring Utah's deer herds in balance bal-ance with the available feed on each range. Opening day for the general deer season for 1965 is Saturday, Satur-day, October 23. Length of season and all other measures concerning the annual deer hunts will be set by the Board of Big Game Control about July 1. |
