Show Distribution areas for two large industries located west of town The large cream-colored building at 380 West 700 So., used some years back to process pro-cess celery, is the present site of two very un-related businesses busines-ses each unlike any other in this area. The south end of the 300 by 60-foot building is occupied by Kaiser Refractories division, while the north end is used as a distribution center for girl's slips, occupied by Arthur Im-erman Im-erman Undergarment Corp. In the Kaiser Refractories portion of the building, fire brick shipped from Missouri, Calif., and Ohio are stored until un-til they are shipped out for re-lining high-heated furnaces and boilers. The majority of the brick are used to re-line furnaces at Geneva Steel. Last year, the storage center received re-ceived approximately 97 car loads of brick for Geneva Steel alone. The bricks are stored in the building in pallets each weighing approximately 4,000 pounds. They are shipped out by track to various parts of the state and also out-of-state. Stored also in the south portion por-tion of the building are large cartons of aluminum foil products pro-ducts manufactured in Per-menti, Per-menti, Calif., and at Wanatah, Ind. There are also large cartons car-tons of "cook and serve" items, pie plates, loaf pans, broiler pans and many other items manufactured in Los Angeles, then sent by truck to Springville, Spring-ville, where they are distributed distrib-uted throughout the inter-mountain inter-mountain area. Manager of the Kaiser Refractories Re-fractories portion of the building build-ing is Clifford Hales of Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove. He said that the inventory at the place last year was about a quarter of a million dollars. North portion In the north half of the building are stored huge cartons car-tons of girls' slips. They are taken from the large boxes, placed in smaller lots and sent to J. C. Penney stores throughout through-out the eleven western states including Alaska. Most of the packages are sent out parcel post with approximately ap-proximately $1,000 being spent each month with the Springville Spring-ville Post Office on packages sent by this one company. The wearing apparel is made in Spartanburg, South Carolina and shipped by truck to the Springville distribution center. Richard Henderson of Alpine is employed as manager of the undergarment distribution center. cen-ter. With the exception of rush times, the managers of the two businesses are the only ones employed at the building. However, How-ever, they report that at various var-ious periods, some extra help is used. Wise, 90 years ago is often overlooked because it started the same day as the Great Chicago Fire. |
