Show Antelope moved to new area Twenty-five head of antelope were trapped at the Dugway Proving Grounds last week by the Utah Department of Fish and Game. Dugway proving Ground officials of-ficials requested that the antelope ante-lope be trapped and moved to another area because they had become a hazard to aircraft in the area. On several occasions antelope crossed the airfield as aircraft were taking off or landing. Department personnel constructed con-structed the trap last spring but were unsuccessful on their first attempt to trap the animals. an-imals. Due to the nearness of the fawning season the operation opera-tion was postponed until this fall. With the aid of department aircraft and ground personnel the antelope were moved into the trap, ear tagged and plastic plas-tic collars put on the does and fawns. The antelope were loaded onto on-to a deparment vehicle and transported to the desert range experiment station near Mil-ford, Mil-ford, where they were released. September is the time to control weeds in the lawn so you'll have a weed-free lawn in spring. Spray with 2, 4-D or spread a granular form of the same chemical over the infested infest-ed areas. Remember that granular gran-ular weed killers must be applied ap-plied to moist leaves so they will adhere. All spraying should be done on a windless day lest the spray drift to nearby ornamentals which are as readily killed as broad-leaved broad-leaved weeds by a chemical which does not discriminate between them. The few weeds not controlled with 2, 4-D alone usually will succomb to a combination of 2, 4-D and 2, 4, 5-T. Ask your garden supply store operator for such a material. The sprayer used for any 2, 4-D product should be kept for weed killing only as it is almost impossible to clean the sprayer completely and even a tiny bit of this chemical will injure broad-leaved broad-leaved plants. |
