Show Club hears about Republican candidates Melvin Laney, Republican party volunteer worker, Provo, was the principal guest speaker speak-er at the meeting of the Alpha Beta Club Friday of last week, at the home of Mrs. Emil Ost-lund Ost-lund in Provo. Mr. Laney was introduced by Mrs. Edward Clyde, program pro-gram chairman and he gave highlights and the background of the various Republican candidates can-didates for office. The speaker noted among other thiings, that generally good high caliber cal-iber men ran for office but he noted among other things, come uninterested in politics because of dishonesty of a few men. He invited club members to ask questions and in closing, phamplets explaining the Free-port Free-port proposal, were distributed. Mrs. G. Ray Hales led the pledge to the flag and Mrs. Milton Harrison gave the club collect. The club president, Mrs. S. Thomas Smith, was in charge of the meeting and announced the next program to be Oct. 23, at her home. At this time, the group will hear a representative represen-tative from the Democratic ticket on qualifications of the candidates on this ticket for office. of-fice. At the close of the meeting, the hostess served refreshments refresh-ments assisted by her daughter, daugh-ter, Mrs. Jerrol Boyer. Mrs, John Y. Bearnson was also a special guest. |
