Show Elder Hinckley to dedicate new two -ward building John H. Manwaring, Willis Strong, G. W. Mendenhall and C. W. Erickson served as counselors. Bishop Huntington was sustained as patriarch when Kolob Stake was organized organ-ized in Nov. 1924. In Nov. 1924, J. Emmett Bird was sustaiined bishop with Edward Clyde, T. R. Greener and Daniel Witney, counselors. This bishopric directed di-rected the building of the new-ward new-ward building which was dedicated ded-icated by President Heber J. The dedicatory address and prayer will be by Elder Gordon B. Hinckley of the Council of Twelve Apostles. The program will open with prelude music by Donald Watts and the choir will sing the opening hymn, directed by Lu-ella Lu-ella Wilson. Invocation will be by Maurice Bird, former bishop bish-op of the First Ward. After a number by the combined com-bined ward choirs, directed by Darlene Day; Mary Bird, accompanist, ac-companist, there will be remarks re-marks by Stake President Ernest Er-nest A. Strong, Jr.; also by Vernon Hurst, building superintendent; super-intendent; Bishop Delmoine Christensen of the 12th Ward and Bishop David Gledhill of the First Ward. There will be a vocal solo by Stanley Burningham and the closing prayer will be by the combined ward choirs. Ruel Crandall, former bishop of the 12th Ward, will give the benediction. The first meeting house was constructed con-structed during their term and dedicated March 11, 1903, by Elder Reed Smoot. Oliver B. It was just recently razed for the present building. In November, 1950, Mr. Bird was sustained as president presi-dent of Kolob Stake and Amyot W. Cherrington filled the position of bishop. Counselors Counsel-ors were Daniel Witney and George LaVell Beardall. Next bishopric was sustained sustain-ed Jan. 6, 1934, with Andrew G. Peterson, bishop; Frank J. Sanford, Wilford M. Manwar-ing Manwar-ing and Victor G. Frandsen counselors. Howard Maycock was sustained sus-tained bishop Dec. 12, 1943 with Don Watts and Leo Felix counselors. Roswell W. Bradford was the next bishop, sustained Feb. 1948 with Lewis B. Childs and Jerry E. Bybee, counselors. Sept. 21, 1952, Lewis B. Childs was called to be bishop with Frank Bale and Marion Ollerton counselors as well as Hal L. Taylor and Bird R. Brown, counselors. On Oct. 21, 1956, Maurice C. Bird was sustained bishop with Bird R. Brown and Alvin R. Taylor, counselors. The present pres-ent building was proposed and plans formulated shortly after by the bishopric. Oct. 30, 1960. David E. Gled-hill Gled-hill was sustained bishop with Glenn A. Montague, Leon G. Bjarnson and Stanley Burning-ham, Burning-ham, counselors. It has been during their tenure of office that the present building has been constructed. Twelfth Ward history A comparitively new ward in the stake, Twelfth Ward was organized from sections of the First and Second Wards on July 22, 1956. Ruel E. Cran-dall, Cran-dall, who had been serving as was purchased and buildings removed. Both wards used the old building until the new structure was ready for occupancy occu-pancy March 17, 1963. Building superintendent of the $405,000 structure was Vernon Hurst. A number of sub-contractors directed donated donat-ed workers in their respective phase of the building. bishop of the second Ward, was sustained as bishop with R. L. Meetings were held in the First Ward building at Eighth South and Fourth East. In July 1958 DelMoine Chris-tensen Chris-tensen was sustained bishop with George A. Bird as first counselor and Ray H. Clark, second counselor. Benny Kill-pack Kill-pack and John Jensen, clerks. It had been apparent the old building would need extensive exten-sive remodeling and a new structure was advised rather than remodel the old one. E. Vern Crandall and Don Watts were named building chairmen of the Twelfth Ward and the project was begun in July 1962. The property south and west of the old building |
