Kiwanis names officers at annual meeting City Attorney Robert J. Sumsion was named presidentelect president-elect of the Kiwanis Club at the annual election meeting on Thursday evening. Maurice Bird, who was voted in last year as president-elect, will take over as president of the club January 1. Other officers elected Thursday Thurs-day night include H. Lamar Weight, vice president; and George R. Bird, Glenn W. Coff-man, Coff-man, W. Berton Groesbeck, Kenneth Long, William J. Pratt, Glenn G. Pyper, and Blair Sargent, members of the board of directors. Mrs. Elayne Schwartz of Provo. an outstanding champion cham-pion of the cause of toe physically phys-ically and mentally-handicapped iin Utah for the past several sev-eral years, was guest speaker at the meeting. Elaine Dart, a cerebral-palsy victim, also gave demonstration demonstra-tion of how she has taught herself, through courage and perserverance, to crochet, knit, write and use a typewriter with her feet. Miss Dart is unable un-able to use her arms or hands because of her palsied condition. con-dition. Speaking on the "Employ the Physically Handicapped" theme, Mrs. Schwartz, herself a handicapped person, urged the Kiwanians to help qualified quali-fied handicaps to prove themselves them-selves in the competitive business bus-iness and professional world. |
