Show Bennett votes against own salary raise Senator Wallace F. Bennett (R-Utah) said today that he voted against raising his own salary by supporting the Miller Mil-ler Amendment to the Federal Pay Raise bill "to demonstrate that Congress needs to begin setting the tone of economy in government since it is obvious that the Executive Branch isn't going to." Senator Bennett also joined in sponsoring an amendment to the Federal Pay Raise Bill restricting the effective date of any increase for officials receiving $20,000 or more until un-til the close of a fiscal year with a balanced budget. The amendment was defeated by a 62-26 count. "The Miller Amendment would have eliminated salary increases for high salaried employees in the legislative, judicial and executive branches branch-es of the government. But it kept intact the classified employees' em-ployees' salary increases," he said. "I did not think that Congress should be discriminated discrimi-nated against and so I feel that all high-salaried Federal employees should forego raises." |
