Show Myers retires from reserve CEDAR CITY - Lt. Col. Kent E. Myers has retired from the United States Air Force Reserve after 28 years of service. Myers is professor of eduaction and director of the reading center at Southern Utah State College and began his Air Force career in 1954 serving in Korea with the eighth Fighter Bomber Wing. His active duty continued with the eighth FBWg at Itazuke AFB in Japan where he was the Wing Information Officer. Reserve assignments for Myers have included squadron commander, military training officer, personnel officer and adjutant. Since 1964 Myers has been assigned as an admissions liaison officer with the United States Air Force Academy. He has been liaison officer with thirteen high schools and two colleges in southwestern Utah. His primary duty has been to counsel young men and women seeking admission to the Academy. For the past two years he has also been responsible for AFROTC counseling. While on active duty in Korea and Japan, Myers was awarded the Freedom Medal by the Freedom Foundation at Valley Forge for his writings on the commitment of an Air Force officer to service and duty. He also received a special commendation from the commander of Fifth Air Force for his "History of the 8th Fighter Bomber Wing." During his long term assignment with the United States Air Force Academy, Myers has counselled over 1,000 young men and women. He currently has three cadets at the Academy from the schools in his jurisdiction. Myers and his wife, Cherie, have five children. Myers is a native of the Minersville-Milford area. He graduated from Milford High School with honors in athletics, science and English and was valedictorian. |
