Show Self examination encouraged : to spur election involvement E Presidents Day is Monday, but what exactly does i that mean to each individual? Is it simply another s holiday? Is it really quite vague, since Congress insisted on combining and changing the birth dates : of two of our most loved presidents? : Or is it a day to think about this country? Is it a I day to realize that many men in the past have given : much to insure our freedom? Is it a day for us to i stop and see what we can do to guarantee the same ; for our children and grandchildren? ; , I We at the Record hope that it is at least part of the ; latter. We , hope that as everyone this weekend : heads for the ski slopes, for Lake Powell or for other : vacation spots, they stop long enough to examine " whaTThey Wve done during the past' yea to help freedom afldto 'keep this;country'-"ilWI.'S 01 , : Think seriously about this next question: When : "was the last time you actively campaigned or supported a candidate for elected office? Probably it has been too long. Yet, as we honor our presidents this weekend, can we really do them justice if we watch as a great or potentially-great statesman struggles to be elected in a comparative vacuum, because a majority of the population won't get involved and may not even vote? Elections are a long ways off right now, but they are coming. They come every year. We would like to see, this, year, an increase in the number of residents who vote. We would like to see active participation in the campaigns of candidates, on every level:- We would like to see citizen involvement :such as,;;werhaye never, seen., , ' So, begin how. Campaigns will be heating up, and some citizens will be involved. It may as well be you. . :. |
