Show KGSU to air opera CEDAR CITY -Vincenzo Bellini's "Norma." a tragic drama of illicit passion set in Roman-occupied Gaul, will be broadcast live from the Matropolitan Opera House Saturday. The Texaco-Metropolitan Texaco-Metropolitan Opera Radio broadcast will be heard locally over KGSU-FM KGSU-FM at 11 a m. KGSU-FM. the Southern Utah State College radio station, is located at 90.1 megahertz on the radio Saturday's broadcast will feature Renata Scotto in the title role of Norma, the Druid High Priestess who has broken her religious vows for love; Tatiana Troyanoe as Adalgisa, a virgin of the Temple; Placido Domingo as the Roman Pro-consul Pollione; and John Cheek as Norma's lather, Oroveso. James Levine conducts. During the single intermission "Opera News on the Air." Edward Dowries will discuss the music and story of "Norma" with Warren Johes, as assistant conductor at the Metropolitan Opra, at the paino. Based on a play by Alexandre Soumet, "Norma" enbodies the early 19th century's spirit of romanticism. Bellini's musical writing is at its most dramatic and expressive, always moving the story towards its final, inevitable tragedy. |
