Show SU lady roundballers face tough schedule contest. Lisa Stolk (sophomore, foward, Parowan) is second in both scoring (13.7 ppg) and rebounding (7.7 rpg). Denice Long (junior, guard, Las Vegas) averages 10.8 points. SUSC has three players averaging double figure scoring. Center Paula Burgoyne (6-0, sophomore, Cedar City) leads the way with 15.1 points per game. She is also the top rebounder with 10.3 takedowns per CEDAR CITY - There is some hope, but little chance, that women's basketball teams in the "neighborhood" will be a little better pickin's for the Southern Utah State College squad this week. The Thunderbird women swing back into Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action this week with a Friday battle at Alamosa, Colorado, against Adams State and a Saturday tilt at Durango, Colorado, against Fort Lewis College. The Adams State affair is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., and the game at Fort Lewis is slated at 7:30 p.m. SUSC split with the two conference opponents at Cedar City, whipping Fort Lewis, 72-68, and losing to the nationally ranked (seventh last week) Adams State crew, 87-66. Following the two RMAC contests, the Lady 'Birds return home for a Tuesday engagement with Dixie College. Game time will be 7:30 p.m. The T-Birds dropped three road games in California in their latest encounters. Cal Baptist nipped the SU team, 70-73; 70-73; Pomona Pitzer bombed the 'Birds, 84-54; and Azusa Pacific took an 85-63 decision. The competition is not expected to be any weaker this week. Adams State, particularly, is strong. The Indians get good mileage from a trio of veterans including guard Pam Bond, forward Cathey Steadman, and center Debbie Gilbert. Fort Lewis is led by Carolyn Seifert, a 5-7 junior guard-forward who is one of the best shooters in the league. |
