Show Mid-year educators conference set resumes at 1:15 p.m. Carolyn Warner, Arizona State Superintendent of Public Instruction, is the afternoon speaker. She will discuss "Accountability in Education" with conference participants. Warner has had 12 years experience in all levels of educational governmence from serving as a member and president of the Phoenix Union High School Board of Education to serving as a member of the Arizona State Board of Education-Vocational Education and as a member of the board of directors of the National Council of Chief State" School Officers. CEDAR CITY Accountability in education and mainstreaming gifted, creative and talented students will be major topics at the annual Southern Utah Mid-Year Conference Feb. 12 at Cedar High School. Educators from Iron, Washington, Kane and Garfield school districts will attend the day-long conference, along with education faculty and students from Southern Utah State College. Sponsored by the Sou the rn Utah Supervisors Association in cooperation with the Teacher Education Department at SUSC, the conference will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the CHS auditorium. "Spirit," a musical group from Dixie High School, will perform prior to a welcoming address by Kent Hulet, SUSA President. June Hubner, an instructor at Nazareth College in Rochester, N.Y., will be the morning speaker. Hubner will discuss "Mainstreaming Gifted, Creative and Talented Students" in a general meeting scheduled to begin at 10:05 a.m. "Mrs. Hubner will define and identify gifted students, then discuss exemplary programs in both elementary and secondary schools, said Quenton Bowler, assistant professor of education at SUSC. "She will end her remarks with a discussion of resources and support services." Sectional meetings will be from 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., when participants will break for lunch. "These sectional meetings will be held for both elementary and secondary teachers and have been planned to be both informative and motivating," Bowler said.
