Show No increase in City's building permits to 278. But, according to Lorraine Johnson, Deputy County Assessor, "the figures in 1980 aren't correct because Brian Head didn't turn in their figures for 1980, and there has been a great deal of construction going on up there." The decrease in building permits isn't a new thing in the County. According to statistics, Johnson reported that in 1978 there were 432 building permits sold. Since that time, the number of permits sold each year has decreased to what it is today. "My predictions, for the next few months, is that you'll see very few building permits for single family dwellings," related DeMille as he went on to state that the increase in valuation was mostly due to a few construction projects in the County. "The greatest increases have come from condominiums being built at Brian Head," commented DeMille. Johnson noted an interesting fact. "Just lately, in the last few months of this year, Parowan has been issuing more building permits than Cedar City," she said. CEDAR CITY -Although the total dollar valuation of building permits tend to indicate that construction in Iron County is blossoming, the actual number of building permits hasn't increased, and will probably be decreasing. According to Iron County Building Inspector Alan DeMille, the dollar amount placed on the total valuation of the building permits sold is very decieving. "There is a marked decrease in the number of building permits being sold in the County," DeMille says. According to one set of figures made available total Record, in Cedar City, for example, the difference between the total number of permits issued in 1980 dnd 1981 is only 4, from 118 to 122. However, the valuation difference is better than $4.5 million, from about $5,024,244 to $9,677,200. The total number of building permits reported to the County in 1980 was 262 and in 1981, the number increased by 16 |
