Show ij - j J fl ( I I'fM; f 111 vj iT' Wj ", H'fWl lb lit Eagle scout banquet slated CEDAR CITY The annual Southern Utah Scout Eagle Banquet will be Saturday evening, at Southern Utah. State, College Student1 Ballroom. The purpose of the banquet is to honor those young men who earned the Eagle Scout Award in 1981. Eagle Scouts from throughout Southern Utah will participate in the banquet. Each young man is sponsored by an adult who pays his way and is his host to the banquet for the evening. The Eagle Scouts will come from Cedar City, Parowan; Beaver; Enterprise; Panaca, Nev.; St. George; Santa Clara; Washington; Kanab; and Fredonia, Ariz. Richard Webster fo Cedar City will serve as master of ceremonies for the banquet. John M. Russon, president of the St. George LDSj Temple , will be the ' featured J speaker during uie evening program. President Russon has served as the President of the Los Angeles Area Council, Boy Scouts of America Board. He has served in many other capacities on the Los Angeles Council Executive Board. He has received the Silver Beaver Award and the Silver Antelope Award from the Western Region, Boy Scouts of America, in 1976. He obtained the rank of Life Scout, with 23 Merit Badges. Russon has served in many positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints. He has served as president of the Swiss Mission and was a Regional Representative of the Quorum of Twelve .Apostles, f 'j Throughout his life he has been askxnated with ' the life insurance industry and has held many positions in that industry. He is a member of the American Society of Chartered Life Underwriters and a life member of the Million Dollar Roundtable of America. The Elks Lodges of Cedar City and St. Geroge will present each Eagle Scout with an American Flag. The Elks Club presents these flags each year because these Eagle Scouts practice daily the teaching of democracy. They are proud to call these young men their fellow citizens because they have worked hard to prove thai they believe in the United States as one nation under God. ,Twio . Eagl. Scout, speakers will also be featured at the banquet, Jeff Whetman of Post 2372, Cedar City, and Darren Mitchell of Troop 416, St. George. : Fred R. Day, scout executive of the Utah National Parks Council, will also be a special guest at the banquet. The committee responsible for organizing is chaired by Douglas Manning of Cedar City. Other members are Robert Esplin, Norman L. Forbush, James Lunt, Brooke Pasey and Dan Lynch, all of Cedar City; Deloy Evans of St. George; and Woody Pollock and Darryl Stoutsenberger of Washington. |
