Show EHS gives good tussle PHS hoopsters edge Wolves PAROWAN The Parowan Rams played a tough Enterprise team just a little bit tougher Friday to come away with a "must" 71-66 win at home in a big Region 12 game. Friday's game was close throughout and was tied at 66-66 with :23 remaining. The Rams hit a foul shot to go up by one, and then Enterprise hurried down and forced a shot, which went astray. Parowan hit a layup, and then Doug Rogerson intercepted a pass and the Rams scored one more to ice the game and result in the 71-66 final. "It was a good game," stated an obviously pleased PHS coach Mark Heppler. "Everybody played well. We rebounded really well as a team." Parowan shot as well against Enterprise as they have in any game this year. They hit 30-51 from the field for a sizzling 59 percent. Rogerson led the Ram 'attack with 25 points. Mike Robinson and Kelly Orton both contributed with 15. Robinson had an excellent game underneath, playing tough defense and swiping 15 boards. Rogerson had 12 rebounds for Parowan. "Other than the foul shots, I was pleased overall," expressed Heppler. PHS foul shooting was the one dark spot in the Rams' performance. They hit only 11-28 shots from the charity stripe and missed the front end of six one-and-one opportunities in the fourth quarter alone. That poor shooting could have cost Parowan the game, but the Rams played well enough in other facets of their game to compensate. Wyatt Banks played a superb game for Enterprise, hitting for 24 points, mostly from way outside. Though Banks was hurting Parowan throughout the game, Heppler felt that the rest of the Enterprise squad was ineffective and didn't concentrate specifically on Banks until the fourth quarter. "We waited until the fourth quarter to blanket Banks," explained Heppler. Truman added 19 points for Enterprise. "They (Banks and Truman) both shot really well," praised Heppler. The 'hot shooting of the two Wolves, along with the poor Ram foul shooting, kept Enterprise close in what could have been a one-sided affair. Parowan led 18-14 at the end of one quarter and 35-32 at the half. They still led 55-51 at the end of three quarters as Enterprise hung tough, but they did the job in the fourth quarter to win. Heppler praised Dan Rex for his game on the boards and also was pleased to see Kelly Orton hit from the outside. Outside shooting has been something the Rams haven't done real consistently this season. Parowan will travel to Kanab tonight to face the Cowboys in Region 12 action. |
