' - 'i ' MILFORD The Tigers of Milford High have been improving with each recent game, and coach Kevin Barnes has felt it would just be a matter of time before his young club knocked somebody on their ear. The Tigers did just that Friday, as they dumped the Kanab Cowboys 60-54 in Milford. Barnes commented on the win: "We finally played a complete ballgame. We kept playing the whole game and shot a decent percentage. We had a balanced attack this time, and we were prepared for them." John Dotson led the balanced Tiger attack with 24 points. Todd Williams added 16 tallies, Darryl Moody hit for 12 and Mark Yardley had 8. "The place we really beat them was on the boards," explained Barnes. A lot of the Milford rebounds came under their own offensive boards, and at one point the Tigers put up six shots underneath before scoring. Moody grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Tiger assault on the glass. Dotson had 12 rebounds, Yardley 6 and Craig Patterson had 4. "It was just that kind of a game where things were going pretty good for us," smiled Barnes. Milford pulled ahead 16-14 at the conclusion of one period of play. They extended that lead to 32-26 at the half and led 46-38 at the end of three. From that point on it was a matter of hitting key foul shots and hanging on to the lead which the Tigers did. Milford shot 25-56 for the game. That translates into a 45 percent success figure. They had 14 assists, 16 turnovers and were 8-17 from the line. Though they didn't shoot real well from the charity stripe, MHS did hit the big foul shots down the stretch to preserve their lead and the win. Kanab continually changed defensive strategies against the Tigers in an effort to shut down Milford's scoring efforts, particularly underneath. Nothing worked too well for Kanab, much to the delight of Barnes, Tiger players and the Milford crowd. MHS will be at Enterprise tonight to take on the Wolves. Enterprise is coming, off a loss to Parowan and has been tough to beat on their home court this season. Cedar High's Kevin Garrett (number 44) goes high to defense a shot against the Flyers of Dixie as David Leavitt and K.C. Jones crash the boards. Garrett scored 22 points for the Redmen in Friday's battle to lead all iscorers, as CHS downed the boys from the south 70-58. |
