Show Hofhein raises Gelbveih cattle "Gelbvieh the breed of the future." That's the belief of Kent Hofheins, rancher. Hofheins Farms in Beaver have the largest purebred Gelbvieh herd in the state. Hofheins and his father, Ora, recently traveled to Washington ' where they purchased yt two purebred Gelbvieh e bulls and 50 purebred t heifers. o Soon after the arrival of h the animals in Southern n Utah the heifers started g calving and now cows and ll calves are adjusting to s their new home. Hofheins indicated that y the reason they have gone into this particular breed is that the adaptability, fertility, :; growth and mothering traits of the animal will lead to a greater efficency in the production of beef. He added that' another plus for the breed is its docile nature and temperament. "Beef production is no longer a haphazard happenstance", said Hofheins. "It, like many other things, is based on sound scientific and business principles." The Gelbvieh originated in Germany, and three of the heifers now residing in Beaver : ' have mothers who were direct imports from there. |
