Show County resolution MX topic again PAROWAN Discussion of the MX resolution and "what happened" with regards to the document going to Washington, without being stamped proposed and not placed on a prior meeting agenda, took up a large share of last week's Iron County Commission meeting. Several concerned citizens attended the meeting and expressed concern about the wording wor-ding of the resolution and how it was sent to the nation's capital with a "pro-MX" group. Cedar City citizen Arlene Braithwaite presented a petition containing 1,657 names of Iron County residents opposed to MX deployment in the area. Braithwaite said, "I think what we're arguing here is that people should have input into what was sent back." Several changes were made in the original resolution to accomodate citizen input at the session. The most significant change added a line to the document calling for Congress to appropriate impact funds at the same time they appropriate funds for deployment of the system. In other action, the Commission Listened to a report from Cedar City businessman Dallin Gardner on the MX trip to Washington, D.C. Gardner told the group that the feeling of those that made the trip was that the system was coming to the Utah-Nevada Utah-Nevada area. He said that the feeling in Washington was that 1'2 to 2 percent of the nation's citizens living in our area were not going to make the decision. Gardner played a tape of a speech given hy Richard Burt, representing Al Haig and the State Department, to the group in D C. Burt spoke on the role of MX in the overall foreign policy of the United States. Opened bids for an audit of the county. Ken Darby, a Cedar City Certified Public Accountant, Ac-countant, submitted a low bid of $2,995. His bid was selected from a total of four submitted. Decided to hire a part-time, year-round fire warden instead ot a lull-time person for only five months out of the year. The feeling of the Commission was that a person year-round would become a more permanent per-manent part of the community.
