CHS tracksters win By MIKE CANNON Record Reporter Cedar High School captured six first place finishes to pave the way for a victory in the first Cedar City Invitational prep track meet held at the Southern Utah State College track. Richfield finished second in the nine team field, losing to the Reds by seven points in a down-to-the-wire finish. Cedar thinclads amassed 112 points to 105 for the Wildcats of Rich field. Hurricane, Delta, Beaver, Millard, South Sevier, Parowan and North Sevier followed. Several outstanding individual performances were recorded at the meet. David Carter won the long jump with a leap of 21-7. He also captured the 200. meters in a time of 22.6 seconds and finished second in the 100. Gary Alger out-leaned Parowan's speedy Scott Freeborn in the quarter to win the horserace. Alger's time of 52.44 in the final heat was a full second behind his qualifying time. Alger also anchored the 1600 meter relay team that came from behind in the last lap to nip Richfield Rich-field by a scant .03 of a second. Danny Harris continued con-tinued his winning ways in the 100 as he edged team-mate David Carter at the tape. Harris clocked a wind aided time of 10.9. Bryce Gubler chucked the javelin around 160 feet to place second. David Dix ran a fine 3200 meters to place second in the distance event. Glenn Taylor snagged a third in the high jump tor the Redmen. Cedar's outstanding 400 meter relay team won the sprint relay in a time of 44.73 seconds, easily beating second place Richfield.
