Show Gala Celebration Slated Plans have been completed and all is in readiness for a' gigantic Independence In-dependence Day celebration to be held in Cedar City Friday, July 4. Under the sponsorship of the Cedar City Lions Club the day-long activities will include a series of special events which will get underway at 6 a.m. with "Good Morning" salute, according ac-cording to Dee Smith, general chairman. The events will be capped Friday night at 8:30 with a giant firework display. The Cedar City Vounteer Fire Department will assist in the salute and will be responsible for the fireworks, Smith indicated. The Miniature Parade, which is under the direction of the Lady Lions, is slated to be held at 9:30 a.m. The V parade will start at 400 South Street and proceed north on Main Street to the Cedar city Park. Cash prizes will be a awarded in several categories. At 9:30 a.m. games and conessions will be held on the City Park. Fish ponds ball pitching games, ring tosses, and the popular dunking pond will be available and tickets will be sold in blocks to accomdate participants. par-ticipants. In addition concession will be sold at the Lions Pavilion at the Park including hamburgers and hot dogs, cotton candy, soft drinks. At 10 a.m. a series of children's games and foot racing will be conducted con-ducted by the Lions with prizes to be awarded the winner. Throughout the day the Lions Club members will be selling badges which will : identify those who are helping to defray the cost of the fireworks. At 8 p.m. a Patriotic Musical program will be held at the Rock Chruch in Cedar City under the direction of the LDS Sevenities who are in charge of the Church visitor center there. Concluding the day's events will be the fireworks display to be held in the southeast portion of Cedar City near the flood control dikes. The fireworks are slated to begin at 9:30 p.m. Everyone throughout the Tri-State area are invited to spend the day in Cedar City to celebrate Indpendence Day. |
