Show Livestock Brands must be Renewed livestock theft in the State. It is illegal to brand an animal with an unrecorded brand. When selecting a new brand it is essential the brand be easy to apply as well as easy to read 1980 is the year for all livestock brands to be renewed. Dr. Robert Poulson Director of Animal Identification and Protection Protec-tion for the Utah Department Depart-ment of Agriculture, stated that present brand identification iden-tification cards expired December 31, 1979. All 27,000 of the registered brands and marks will need to be renewed this year. In order to accomodate the public and utilize office personnel, the renewal deadline will be September 1, 1980. The first notice for brand renewal will be sent in April, 1980. A second notice will be sent in July. All brands which have not been renewed by September 1980 will be declared unclaimed and will be available to the public. Louise Merry is the brand recorder for the Department and can answer any questions which may need answering. A $10 fee is charged for new brand recordings or transfers. The fee is charged to help cover the cost of administering the brand program. Dr. Poulson stressed the importance of the branding program.
