Show LOOKING BACK Taken from Iron County Record, March 1916. Steam Laundry For Cedar City Money has been obtained for purpose and Preliminaries have been accomplished. Steam Laundry to be in active operation within 90 days. Gronway R. Parry, Instructor in BAC (now SUSC) and County Demonstrator, to put investiment through. That Cedar City's long cherished dream of a laundry was about to be realized, was assured by Gronway R. Parry, who asserts positively that all arrangements have been made for the establishment of an industry of this kind here. The capital is provided, and an order will be placed for the machinery in the very near future. ' . The matter of the location had not yet been decided upon, but among other sites, the old Gem Theatre building was being considered. (Anyone know where the old Gem Theatre building was?) The business will have a moderate beginning, but the plant will be large enough to take care of the laundry work of 500 families each week at the outset, and can be increased in size at any time if found necessary. The cost is estimated at $3,000, but may vary considerable con-siderable in accordance with the amount of money put into the building, and Mr. Parry has assurance that the business will start out with a good patronage. It is expected that a representative of the manufacturers of the machinery to be installed will visit Cedar within a few days to look over the requirements. The laundry will be equipped to do all classes of washing and ironing, from the plain wet wash to the elegantly finished collars ana cutis ana lancy sruns. u is a part of the plan of the management to also put into operation wagon service to Parowan and possibly other towns of the county, at least once each week. There were so many obstacles in the way of the success of the co-operative laundry, and the matter having been delayed so long, Mr. Parry, who had been quietly investigating the matter for some months form every angle, decided to finance and put the business into operation himself.
